Cities of the Future – WNYC Culture

This site has some interesting city planning proposals. There’s a bunch of before and after photo’s and illustrations. Many of them are about densification and walkability, and how to transform various problem areas around the globe.

For example: Achmedabad, India.

Problem: In a large vacant area near the historic downtown, rickshaws, motorcycles, and cars have a stranglehold on transportation.

Proposal: Build pedestrian squares, BRT links to the city, and bicycle-friendly streets. The new foot-traffic encourages commercial development in the vacant area.
