No, this is not flat screen TV’s but flat screen solar thermal. Instead of expensive concave solar thermal energy tracking the sun, David Mills came up with cheaper flat panel solar that can be mass-produced much cheaper. It bounces the sunlight to a fixed central pipe which collects the heat and shoots down the line to the central turbine. As I may have indicated before, Ausra’s factory is now built and is pumping out the flat panels.
Ausra has built the first U.S. manufacturing plant for solar thermal power systems, in Las Vegas. The 130,000-square-foot, highly automated manufacturing and distribution center produces the reflectors, towers, absorber tubes, and other key components of the company’s solar thermal power plants. The plant began operation in July 2008.
